Ibiza Workers FAQs

How much money should I bring to my Ibiza summer job?

We advise that you bring a minimum of £1,000 to get you started when you arrive to work at Ibiza. It can be tough to make any money until the start of June when you’ve secured your first job so you’ll need to budget for the period prior to this time. Remember that going to Ibiza to work is a marathon a not a sprint. You need to make your cash last all season and it’s really easy to get into holiday mode if you’re not careful.

With a bit of careful planning you’ll be able to budget in Ibiza in many ways. Food from supermarkets can be reasonably cheap and much more affordable than eating out every day. You can also take advantage of the perks of your job, as many workers can get passes or guest list access for reduced or free entry to clubs.

Is it hard to find a job in Ibiza?

It’s not easy to secure Ibiza summer season work but providing that you have the right attitude and are prepared to work hard, you should be successful.

There is a lot of competition for every type of job on the island so you need to be experienced in your line of work and ready to sell yourself to potential employers. Getting a good job is often based on who you know in Ibiza, so be friendly and make plenty of connections to increase your chances of getting a job and Ibiza work opportunities.

What do employers look for?

You might have filled in Ibiza job applications but no matter what line of work you do in Ibiza, you need to be driven, friendly and hardworking in order to keep up the pace, so these are the attributes that many employers are looking for.

You should be outgoing and charismatic and, since you’ll often be the face of a company or venue, you have to be presentable too. Around 70% of Ibiza work on offer for those heading out for a summer of fun are commission-based or part commission-based, so you have to be persuasive not only to get the job but to be successful in it too.

When do jobs start?

Most Ibiza bartender jobs and those in restaurants start at the end of April or the beginning of May when tourists begin to arrive, as do commission-based roles, such as shot and ticket selling jobs in Ibiza.

PR jobs begin throughout May as the season picks up and towards the middle to end of June, when the season is in full swing and the island gets to its busiest, Ibiza dance work and parade jobs get started.

When is the best time to arrive for an Ibiza work holiday?

The time you should arrive in Ibiza depends on the type of job you want; if it’s bar work you’re after it should be the end of April but many tend to land on the island in early May.

The earlier you get to the island the more chance you have of securing more Ibiza work offers with a basic wage. Plus, if you’re in Ibiza in May you’ll be able to make the most of all the incredible workers parties throughout the month.

Do many people come to work on Ibiza on their own?

Around 70% of our customers are solo travellers who are ready to meet like-minded people and make a group of brand new friends.

If you head to the island alone, you can be placed in Ibiza workers accom with other solo travellers in order to establish an instant group of friends to explore and party with.

How do I book my flights?

Skyscanner is a brilliant website for searching for and booking the cheapest flights to Ibiza. If you plan in advance and keep your eyes peeled, you’ll likely find plenty of deals and discount vouchers too, meaning you’ll have extra cash to spend enjoying the Ibiza season 2017.

Budget airline Ryanair has a new based on the island, so it’s now easier than ever before to find affordable flights to head to Ibiza to work.

What’s the best way of keeping my money safe when I work in Ibiza over the summer?

There’s no harm in keeping all your money in cash if you want but you should probably have access to a safe in order to make sure nothing happens to it. Only carry as much cash as you need at the time to avoid all of your savings getting lost or stolen.

A safer option is to use a bank card or a prepaid travel card so that you don’t have to carry too much cash with you; if either of these are lost or stolen you can simply contact the bank or card provider to block further transactions. It’s also possible to open a Spanish bank account if you want a more permanent solution for managing your money while you work abroad in Ibiza. This option tends to be popular with workers who return to the island year after year.

Can I get money sent to me?

Yes. Western Union is a great for having money transferred to you either via your Spanish bank account or even in cash if you can find a Western Union agent near your workers’ accommodation in Ibiza.

If you don’t have a Spanish bank account but have a trusted friend who does, you can have the money transferred to them and then ask them to withdraw the cash for you.

What happens if I haven’t got experience?

Lacking experience may impact your ability to get certain summer jobs in Ibiza. Dancers, body painters and cocktail waiters all tend to need some prior experience to ensure their Ibiza job CV gets noticed but others, such as glass collectors or shot girls, may not need it, as attitude and personality are more important.

Provided you come across as positive and prepared to work hard, you’ll significantly increase your chances of getting Ibiza work for summer 2017.

How do I arrange a transfer from the airport?

The easiest way to get to your final destination, whether you’re heading to a hotel or a block of workers’ apartments in Ibiza, from the airport is with our private transfers option, which costs £20.

If you don’t select this option when booking you can get a normal taxi. This will cost roughly €35 to take you from the airport to your apartment.

What happens after the initial 4 weeks?

After four weeks on Ibiza the season will only just be getting into full swing, so we encourage you to stay on long after this time, whether you secure a position in Ibiza rep work or choose to do something different.

We’ll keep in touch with you throughout the summer season and you can contact us for our guest list access; you’ll still be welcome on all our nights out and events, no matter if you continue to work or not.

Will my bank card work in Ibiza?

Your bank card should work perfectly well in Ibiza but it’s a good idea to contact your bank in advance to heading out to find your dream job in Ibiza to check that they won’t block transactions; some banks do this to protect against fraud.

How will I get paid?

Most seasonal and Ibiza summer jobs are paid in cash daily, weekly or monthly depending on the role. For example, bar workers who work regular shifts may be paid monthly, while an Ibiza dancer job may pay daily, as the dancers are likely to constantly work in different venues.

Do employers in Ibiza only choose good looking people?

Most employers concentrate mainly on attitude but it’s also important to look presentable in line with the scene if you want to secure a position when looking for work in Ibiza.

Dancers, shot girls and those doing parade jobs often have to fit certain criteria so looks are important in these lines of work but be sure you have the right attitude too to avoid being overlooked.

The good news is that Ibiza is a mecca for DJs, as long as you’re prepared to work incredibly hard to get to where you want to be as there are plenty of DJ jobs in Ibiza 2017.

DJs often have to play a lot of sets for free in order to get their foot in their door and build up a reputation. Even if you’re a successful DJ in the UK, you’ll still need to prove that you can work an Ibiza crowd before you’ll be offered paid work. You’ll need some savings or another job in order to do this, but if you work hard enough it will definitely pay off in the end; good DJs can earn hundreds or even thousands of Euros each night.

  • Working hours: 8pm-8am (will vary)

What should you do about your mobile phone?

As soon as you touch down on the island it is advisable to get your Spanish SIM card sorted out so that you're not hiking up your UK phone bill. The majority of workers are on the Lebara network which offers great pay-as-you-talk packages; €15 will get you 500 international minutes, 3000 texts, 3000 minutes to other Lebara network numbers and 1GB of data.

It is common practise for people to get their smartphones unlocked in order to use it with their Spanish SIM card. However, if you don’t trust yourself with a £600 iPhone then you can easily buy yourself a cheap Nokia for €35 including a Spanish SIM.
